Science on Stage Ukraine

Science on Stage Ukraine was started in Kharkiv in 2016 and is supported by a group of enthusiastic science teachers, who work as volunteers at the Educational Centre of Youth Gifts Development Association (ECYGDA).

The ECYGDA was set up in 1999 as an NGO dealing with science educational projects and is by now situated at the premises of Karazin Kharkiv National University. With its 'Paradox Shows', various other theme shows, science cafés (Café Sientifique), and new exhibits for science shows ECYGDA became a platform for running popular science shows for secondary school students and science teachers. Since 2008 the Centre is a member of Eusea. Now it is host to Science on Stage Ukraine

Science on Stage Ukraine wants to support STEM teachers in Ukraine by:

  • spreading the ideas and the spirit of the European Science on Stage festivals in teacher trainings: Ukrainian and Western Europe festival projects are to be presented to STEM teachers throughout Ukraine.
  • the development and design of self-made and non-typical exhibits, equipment and physics toys for science shows and for teaching physics at secondary school.
  • fostering science teachers, who are able to present their innovations not only in the native languages (Russian and Ukrainian) but in English as well.
  • the organisation of the first Science on Stage festival for STEM teachers from all over Ukraine in Kharkiv in November 2016.

The ECYGDA was set up in 1999 as an NGO dealing with science educational projects, also working in the field of additional education for secondary school students and STEM teachers.

The main streams of activities included: science club activities, physics and math tutoring, summer camp activities, training for preparation and presentation of simple research projects (in physics, maths, ecology, computer science and engineering). Now it is situated at the premises of Karazin Kharkiv National University.

Since 2004, the Centre staff has been carrying out activities related to British methods of science promotion among Ukrainian teachers, which were initiated under the auspices of the British Council in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Later the Centre became a platform for running popular science shows for secondary school students and science teachers. In 2005 ECYGDA presented its 'Paradox Shows' in Britain - a milestone in the development of the Centre.

In 2007, the First Exhibition of Science Paradoxes was presented to Kharkiv citizens. In 2008 ECYGDA became a member of Eusea and started to visit science festivals and events not only in Ukraine, but joined the EU community and took part in the PLACES Project.

In collaboration with Karazin Kharkiv National University, ECYGDA was the main organizer of the EPF Conference in 2011.

Since 1999 the Centre members have routinely taken part in many educational and scientific conferences, interactive tours (entertaining physics, funny maths, wonderful biology), science festivals and scientific picnics all over the world, where the team has successfully demonstrated its achievements.
