Arduino workhop in Spata, Greece
In June 2024, 20 teachers of the 1st Lyceum of Spata in the metropolitan area of the Greek capital came together for a workshop on Arduino. The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Maria Ntemou, the school's IT teacher, and Mrs. Vasiliki Lappa, the Chemistry teacher. Both educators had already collaborated in instructing students on automation with Arduino and now organised a four-hour session to introduce their colleagues to the Arduino board by engaging them in the creation and programming of an automation circuit simulating traffic light operations.
The fundamental goal was to cultivate the participants' computational thinking skills and underscore the interrelationship of STEM disciplines. The workshop employed a collaborative and experiential problem-solving approach, where the trainers assumed a guiding and supportive role. By immersing the participants in the process of circuit design, programming, and real-world testing, the workshop aimed to enhance their ability to think critically and creatively in addressing technological challenges.
The workshop received enthusiastic feedback from the participants, who confirmed that working with Arduino promised to be “highly captivating for students” and gave them insights on “what STEM really means”.
This training activity was supported by a grant from Science on Stage's “Coding for our Future” funding programme. Find out more how you can benefit from this funding programme supported by Amazon Future Engineer for more teacher training activities in the field of coding.
