Pitch Perfect – The Rate of Photosynthesis of Football Turf
Overview
Roots and leaves of football turf are suffering a lot during a football match. For this reason it is vital to encourage the rapid recovery of the damaged grass between two matches: For example by using artificial light.
In ‘Pitch Perfect’ students of secondary school examine in their biology classes the impact of the wavelength of light on the rate of photosynthesis and the plant growth. Therefore the students grow their own grass and examine by using LED lamps which colour of light is absorbed the most by chlorophyll. The absorbed light stimulates light-dependent reactions which support a healthy plant growth.
