After that he worked as a PhD student in the department of Training Science at the University of Münster and in the Department of Training and Movement Science at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. Since 2012 Janssen has been teaching computer science and physical education in Osnabrück, Ratingen, Emsdetten and finally at Gymnasium Dionysianum in Rheine in Northwestern Germany. In addition to his teaching activities, he completed his dissertation at the Department of Sports Science at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in 2016. Janssen joined Science on Stage as a participant in Germany’s National Science on Stage Festival in 2018, where he presented his teaching project “Machine Learning in School” and was chosen as one of eleven German projects to take part in the European Science on Stage Festival 2019 in Portugal.
About the project
The idea for a series of learning units on Machine Learning was first born in 2012. After years of trialling in the classroom, the ideas were published in a Science On Stage brochure in 2019. Shortly after publication, an online continuation of the series was taken into consideration. Four years and more than 600,000 characters of code and text later, Machine Learning in School is now making its debut.
