AI in STEM Challenge application

Below you find all the information you need to apply with your project.

Project video, poster and description will be the base for the jury decision. Please ensure that you have the permission to use all graphics and pictures. Therefore, we kindly ask you to sign the ‘Declaration of consent form for teachers’ and have your students sign the ‘Declaration of consent form for students’. This form must be signed by all students who are either named as part of the competing team and/or seen in the video or any additional image material. In case the students are underage, the declaration of consent form must additionally be signed by a parent or legal guardian. 

Evaluation criteria

In the evaluation process, the jury will rank all applications using the following criteria:

  • Creativity
  • Activity of the students
  • Involvement of the environment (school, city, region)
  • Innovation
  • Sustainability
  • Possible application in practice
  • Presentation of the results

Further evaluation aspects

Through the work in the project, the students should have gained a deeper understanding of AI / machine learning and improved their digital skills.

The jury will also look at the following aspects and the project should include some of them:

  • Transfer of fundamental knowledge: Students learn how the AI collects, treats and processes data to find new answers.
  • Technical implementation: Apply AI techniques and algorithms to the project and/or use AI in a creative way and understand the technical implementation.
  • Uses of AI to solve or perform routine tasks in an innovative manner. This includes to use the AI in a reflective way, e.g., solutions are checked for plausibility.
  • Ethical considerations: Address ethical issues associated with the AI system and discuss mitigation methods.

The video

Present your project in an interesting, informative and inspiring way. The viewer should have a good idea what your project is about but still want to know more.

The maximum length for your video is 120 seconds including credits.

Make your video in English!

  • The format of the video should be 16:9.
  • Use landscape format.
  • The ideal resolution is 1920x1080.
  • You do not need a video camera to record your video. Tablets or smartphones are enough.
  • Make sure the music in your video has a suitable license (e.g. CC BY or CC0). 
  • Make sure that there is no copyright infringement with any of the material you use in your video.
  • If you show people in your video ensure you have their signed consent. In the case of underage students, it must be additionally signed by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Please make the video available for download using e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, SharePoint, WeTransfer, and not video-sharing sites like YouTube.

  • Link to the project video (using e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, SharePoint, WeTransfer, and not video-sharing sites like YouTube.)

  • Project description as pdf

  • Declaration of consent form for students as separate pdf files (for all students who are either named as part of the competing team and/or seen in the video or any additional image material. In case the students are underage, the declaration of consent form must be additionally signed by a parent or legal guardian.)

  • Declaration of consent form for teachers as separate pdf files (for all involved teachers)
