Digital skills and STEAM: events in Latvia
In March 2025, Science on Stage Latvia was involved in two events fostering educators' digital skills and the STEAM approach in school. Skaidrīte Bukbārde shares her report:
On March 10, Jelgava Secondary school of technology – a partner and active supporter of Science on Stage Latvia activities – organised a practical conference for teachers of various subjects from primary to secondary school, entitled "From theory to practice: STEAM solutions for schools". 103 teachers from 32 schools attended. During the conference, the teachers could listen to inspirational stories from experience and participate in practical workshops. The school offered 12 practical workshops where experienced teachers provided advice and shared methods on how to effectively integrate STEAM approaches into various subjects. This conference confirmed that STEAM education is essential for the development of students' knowledge and skills, as well as showed new opportunities for making the learning process more interesting and effective.
On March 11, Zemgale Region Competence Development Center (ZRKAC) hosted an event aimed at improving educators’ digital skills. The theme of this year’s event was "Security and digital well-being in the age of artificial intelligence". The teachers – 124 educators from primary to secondary school level – had the opportunity to listen to two theoretical lectures and participate in 7 practical workshops, getting to know and trying out the latest digital tools of artificial intelligence, clarifying the risks of cyberattacks and fraud, as well as learning about the use of artificial intelligence in the management of educational institutions and the learning process.
