Coding for our Future: micro:bit workshop in Ankara

In the beginning of September, the Liman Kitap Café in Ankara, a popular bookstore in the Turkish capital, was a fitting venue for a teacher training workshop titled “Datalogging with the micro:bit”. Organized under the expert guidance of Dr. Selçuk Yusuf Arslan, a Science on Stage Europe Ambassador, the event was supported by a grant from the Coding for our Future programme and brought together 14 primary and secondary school teachers from various disciplines.

The workshop, which required no prior coding knowledge, kicked off with a warm welcome and introductions. The first segment was dedicated to a comprehensive introduction to the micro:bit and basic coding principles. After a brief networking break, the workshop focussed on data science applications. Dr. Arslan demonstrated how to collect and visualize real-time data using the micro:bit, turning abstract concepts into tangible experiences. The event concluded with a certificate ceremony, celebrating the participants’ newfound skills. Over the course of three hours, the teachers not only learned about coding and data science but also formed a supportive community of like-minded educators.

The “Coding for our Future” grant scheme supported by Amazon Future Engineer continues into 2025. Teachers and schools who are interested in organising a teacher training activity in the field of coding in their own town or region can apply for up to 175 Euros. Find out more on our project page.
