Seawater experiments: Discover biology and chemistry in a fish tank
Overview
In this teaching material students design a marine investigation unit with low budget materials in their classroom.
They monitor the water quality, grow phytoplankton, Artemia - brine shrimp, measure the filter capacity of shellfish or the feeding habit of bristle worms.
The teaching material is based on the project ‘A low budget sea aquarium in the class’ by Hans Mulder who got awarded for his idea with the European Science Teacher Award at the Science on Stage festival 2015 in London and adresses biology and chemistry teachers. The material is designed for students aged 14 and over.
